These high-end smartphones are to appear with Qualcomm’s new top chip
The Android year ends with a first outlook on 2022. Qualcomm, the market leader in the smartphone upper-class chip segment, has announced its new top SoC, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1, which many manufacturers will use for their upcoming top models. In contrast to last year, industry leader Samsung seems to be falling behind with its upcoming Galaxy S22 models. Because the competitors are hurrying to bring their high-end models into position before Samsung. Some 2022 models will even be presented this year.

Motorola is pushing ahead with the Edge X30
On December 9th, Motorola wants its Edge X30 with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon before everyone else introduce. The Lenovo subsidiary is a bit surprising with the upcoming top model, as Motorola has recently focused on mid-range models. The last Edge models in the form of the Edge 20 from August 2021 were in the upper middle class in terms of equipment and price.
In addition to the use of Qualcomm’s top SoC, 50-megapixel triple cameras on the back and a 60-megapixel selfie cam are expected. The Moto Edge X30 could also have a 5,000 mAh battery with 68 watt charging capacity. The AMOLED display should have a diagonal of 6.67 inches and a 144 Hertz refresh rate.
But even if it will be the first model with Snapdragon 8 Gen 1, the manufacturer does not seem to be planning a global launch at first. The device will apparently only appear for China at first.
Xiaomi, which Samsung wants to take first place in the global smartphone market, unveiled the first high-end model before the Galaxy S21 series last year. Like Motorola with its Edge X30, the Mi 11 initially only appeared in China. For the global market, Xiaomi lagged behind Samsung: The Mi 11 only started in this country in February 2021 – about a month after the Galaxy S21 series.
With the Xiaomi 12 – without Mi – the manufacturer reportedly plans to take off globally in January. However, Xiaomi has only officially confirmed that it wants to install Qualcomm’s top chip in its upcoming high-end device.
Oppo and its subsidiary Oneplus have also officially confirmed the first devices with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 1. The specific model names have neither named Oppo nor Oneplus, but we can assume that Oppo will name its high-end smartphone Find X4 Pro after the 2021 model that was Find X3 Pro (test). According to Oppo, we can expect the Find X4 to be launched in the course of the first quarter.
For Oneplus, it will probably be the Oneplus 10 (Pro), which the manufacturer is rumored to be able to reveal earlier than usual. Company boss Pete Lau has announced on the Chinese social media platform that Oneplus will rely on the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 Weibo confirmed.
The first leaks of the Oneplus 10 indicate a well-known design, in which the manufacturer could have oriented itself a little on Samsung’s Galaxy S21 Ultra.
Realme, which, like Oppo and Oneplus, belong to the BBK group and usually offer quite affordable smartphones with high-end components, has already commented on the use of the Snapdragon SoC.
According to the company, the GT 2 Pro will be βthe first Pro product in the Realme GT series and the highest quality flagship from Realme to dateβ. That should mean that the upcoming model will also be more expensive than the manufacturer’s previous devices. The manufacturer has not given specific information about the launch, but according to its own statements, Realme will be one of the first manufacturers with a device that will be powered by the new chip.
Rumors and render images According to the GT 2 Pro will have a flat 6.8-inch WQHD Plus display with a refresh rate of 120 Hertz and a triple 50 megapixel camera (50 megapixel by 50 megapixel by 8 megapixel) on board. It should also have twelve gigabytes of RAM and 256 gigabytes of UFS 3.1 storage.
If you believe the well-known Leaker Ice Universe, Samsung could be the seventh manufacturer with new top models in 2022 with its Galaxy S22 series with a presumed launch in February. All of the above-mentioned companies, plus Vivo subsidiary Iqoo, which is better known in Asia, will launch their new top models by February in order to compete with the industry leader.
Like the predecessor models, the S22 series is not delivered with Qualcomm’s top chip in many regions, but with the company’s own Exynos top model. The Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 should only be installed in the US model of the Galaxy S22 series.
It is currently unclear whether the competitors will be able to steal the market share from Samsung with their presumed earlier release dates. The strategy of the competitors is quite clear: be earlier than the market leader.
