The best Apple Pencil alternatives
With an Apple Pencil, you can operate the iPad with a stylus instead of your fingers. This has several advantages. This way, your screen is no longer covered in fingerprints and you can tap parts on your tablet more precisely.
You can also use the Pencil to take handwritten notes. In addition, the stylus is of course a must for creative people. Drawing and sketching on an iPad is of course easiest with a stylus.
Still, the price of the Apple Pencil is often an obstacle. For example, the Apple Pencil 1 now costs 119 euros at Apple. The Apple Pencil 2 is even more expensive, you have to pay 149 euros for it.
Fortunately, there are now several alternatives to the Apple Pencil available. And the good thing about this is: they are often a lot cheaper. We have listed three (with the best price) for you!
NB! Always check whether these alternative pencils are suitable for your iPad. Not all pencils work on all tablets. You can always find this information in the description of the online store.
The best alternative to Apple Pencil: Logitech Crayon
The Logitech Crayon is the best alternative to the Apple Pencil. This rather colorful version of the Apple stylus is an excellent choice. In our Logitech Crayon review we wrote earlier:
It is a pity that pressure sensitivity is missing and the design certainly looks less sleek compared to Apple’s alternative, but especially for a suggested retail price of around 70 euros, this is more than enough for many people.
The Logitech Crayon has an aluminum housing, with a wide grip. This makes the stylus feel sturdy and the bright orange rubber accents give the pen a child-friendly appearance. The Crayon immediately connects to the iPad: just turn it on and start drawing. The Crayon lasts 7.5 hours on one battery charge.
The best buy: Adonit Neo
The Adonit Neo is a great stylus for someone who finds the Logitech Crayon just a bit too expensive. With this stylus you can go 9 hours ahead on a battery charge. It is very accurate and has a very fine point. This also makes it feel like a real pen.
Furthermore, it is very easy to use. You don’t even have to connect via bluetooth, but you can use it right away by pressing the Power button. By the way, you can click the Adonit Neo magnetically onto your iPad, just like an Apple Pencil 2. You can charge it with a cable.
Best budget buy: Hommie Pencil and Tikken’s Stylus Pen
We have not one, but two recommendations for the best budget choice. These are the Hommie Pencil and the Tikkens Stylus Pen. These affordable Apple Pencil alternatives are therefore great for trying out whether a stylus is something for you before you buy a more expensive Apple Pencil.
With one battery charge, the Hommie Pencil can be used continuously for 20 hours. Full charging takes just 1.5 hours. You don’t have to connect the pencil to your iPad via Bluetooth, just touch the screen and it’s ready to use.
With one battery charge, the Tikkens Stylus Pen can last up to 15 hours. You can charge it with the included micro USB cable. The Tikkens Stylus is very similar to the Apple Pencil 1, but with an extra button.
You miss these functions with the Apple Pencil alternatives
Most of the functions work the same on the Apple Pencil alternatives as they do on the real Apple Pencil. One thing the alternatives don’t have is pressure sensitivity. With the Apple Pencil, the stylus registers how hard you press on the pen. This is especially nice when drawing with which you can easily draw thick and thin lines.
The alternatives do this in a different way. When you tilt the stylus more, the drawn line becomes thicker. If you hold the pen straighter, the line will become thinner.
Of course there are more differences between the cheap pencils. This way, you can charge an Apple Pencil 2 by clicking it on the magnetic edge of your tablet. The Apple Pencil alternatives do not have this capability.
