CarPlay in iOS 17
During WWDC 2023, Apple did not reveal much about the new features of CarPlay. Still, there are a few new features in iOS 17. The real, major update of CarPlay will take a little longer, but more about that later.
New functions
One of the most notable new features of CarPlay is that Shareplay is now supported. This allows anyone to control the music in the car from their own phone, even if they don’t have Apple Music.
In addition, Apple Maps now provides real-time information about charging stations for electric cars. This feature has now also been added to the Maps app in CarPlay. This makes it easier to find an available charging station. This is probably a feature that will only be available in the US for now.
In addition, Apple has also been working under the hood on the functions of CarPlay in iOS 17. For example, the interface has been adjusted in some places. For example, replying to messages has been given a new look.
Please wait for the really big update
The new functions are nice, but a really big update for CarPlay will take a little longer. Apple had already announced this improved version of CarPlay in WWDC 2022.
They also said at the time that the first cars with support for this new version of CarPlay will be unveiled in 2023. If that is still correct, we will not have to wait very long before we see the new version.
