Apple releases watchOS 9.4

Apple released a number of new updates yesterday. iOS 16.4 appeared for the iPhone and macOS Ventura 13.3 for the Mac. The Apple Watch could not be missed either, watchOS 9.4 was released for the watch yesterday. You need an Apple Watch Series 4 or later to install the update.

Like watchOS 9.3, watchOS 9.4 is not a major update. In the latest update according to Apple’s release notes only solved a problem with the alarm clock for Dutch users. Fixed alarm clock issue in watchOS 9.4

A common problem with the Apple Watch was using the alarm clock – and especially the lack of it. Due to the function ‘Cover to keep silent’ it sometimes happened that the alarm was accidentally turned off, for example in your sleep. This will change in watchOS 9.4.

With the latest version of watchOS, it is no longer possible to turn off your alarm clock by (accidentally) covering your Apple Watch. You now have to manually operate an alarm clock to turn it off. This should prevent you from oversleeping by unknowingly turning off your alarm clock.

Remove default apps from your Apple Watch

A new feature in watchOS 9.4 that isn’t in Apple’s announcement is removing default apps from your Apple Watch. Previously, it was not possible to delete apps that are downloaded by default on the Apple Watch. That will change with the new update, with watchOS 9.4 you can finally decide for yourself which apps you do and do not delete.

These are the apps that can only be uninstalled from watchOS 9.4:

• Siren
• Find my
• Heartbeat
• Cards
• Wallet
• Workout
• World clock

Almost all apps are used by many users on a daily basis, but it is still nice to have the option to delete the app. For example, do you never use the Workout app when exercising? Then you can finally remove it from your Apple Watch.
