The most popular emoji of 2021
The 😂 ‘face with tears of joy’ is by far the most popular emoji. This emoji accounted for 5% of the total online emoji use. only it ❤️ ‘red heart’ is still a bit close in popularity. Then follow at a great distance the 🤣 ‘face rolling on the floor with laughter’ and the 👍 ‘thumbs up’.
So the positive vibe emoji are again the most popular and the list hasn’t changed much compared to previous years. The 100 most used emoji account for 82% of total emoji use. Nevertheless, since September 2021 there are a total of 3663 emoji in the Unicode Standard.
Most popular emoji by category 2021
The emojis are divided into different categories. For example, you have the category ‘Smileys and people’ in which you can see all the yellow smiling faces and ‘Animals and nature’ in which you will find the different emojis for the animals. Each of these subcategories also have their most popular emoji. Some examples are:
- 🚀 ‘Rocket’, which can be found in the ‘Travel and Places’ category.
- 💐 ‘Bouquet‘ and 🦋 ‘butterfly’ from the category ‘Animals and nature’.
- 🍓 ‘Strawberry’ from the ‘Food and drink’ category also always works well.
And what are the least popular emoji? Those are the flags. The flags of countries in particular are the least used, but it is one of the largest subcategories.
