Throughout the year we are busy with smartphones in all shapes and sizes. Time to look at what the best smartphone of 2022 is. Which smartphones will take home the DroidApp Award 2022?

In the past year, a lot of smartphones have been released by the different brands. Time to take stock and see which smartphone deserves a place in the honor roll. Because which smartphone is the best choice? We look at various aspects such as ease of use, performance, update policy and of course the price-quality ratio.

As in previous editions of the DroidApp Awards, we choose not for one smartphone as the winner. This is because there is a wide choice of devices in different price ranges. A good mid-range device then has a much more difficult chance against a high-end smartphone that is twice or sometimes even three times as expensive.

As in the DroidApp Awards 2021 article, we have one big winner. The other smartphones are in random order.

The big winner: Motorola Edge 30 Ultra

As far as we’re concerned, Motorola wins the DroidApp Award for ‘Best smartphone of 2022’. We have previously discussed the smartphone extensively in the Motorola Edge 30 Ultra review. Equipped with a lightning fast processor and the very handy Motorola tools. Consider, for example, shaking the device to switch on the flashlight. In terms of battery life, the Edge 30 Ultra was very convincing. Still an empty battery? With the included quick charger, the battery is full again in no time. The update policy is nice, but could have been better. We would also like to see the zoom performance of the camera better with the Edge 40 Ultra.

Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra

The Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra is the high-end smartphone from this year’s S22 series. We have looked at the device from all sides in the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra review. The phone takes very good photos, manages to perform all tasks smoothly and will not disappoint you in many areas. A nice addition is the S Pen with which you can perform extra actions. If you want a smaller device, the Galaxy S22+ is also a nice device. Also a perfect camera, although the battery life is somewhat disappointing with intensive use. If you prefer to spend less, we would opt for the Galaxy A53.

Google officially released the Pixel phones in the Netherlands for the first time this year. In our Pixel 7 Pro review, we put one of the two models through its paces. An important disadvantage is the poor battery life, which still undermines this great smartphone. Nevertheless, the Pixel 7 Pro is really a device that will satisfy you in many areas.

OnePlus Nord CE 2

A cheaper smartphone that has also managed to convince us is the OnePlus Nord CE 2. This 5G smartphone costs about 300 euros today, and that means you really have a nice device at home. The camera does a good job during the day and the battery life is fine. In addition, the update to Android 13 is in the offing, although it is not clear when this will happen.
