Apple in 2023: many new products
Apple released enough products and updates again this year. In 2022, we saw the announcement of iOS 16, iPadOS 16, the iPhone 14 Pro and a new MacBook Air, among other things. At the same time, Apple experienced major setbacks in iPhone production and criticism of the App Store increased. So it’s been an eventful year for Apple.
The year is now almost over and that means it’s time to look ahead. The wildest rumors are already circulating: from an Apple Car to a MacBook with a folding screen. What are our expectations for Apple in 2023? We put our predictions together!
1. First version of mixed reality glasses (Apple XR) will appear in 2023
Earlier this year, the first clues to a VR headset surfaced in the App Store’s open source code and logs. It revealed that Apple is working on xrOS, likely for a headset called Apple XR. It is intended for gaming, streaming video content and communication, such as video calling.
Apple still faced some technical challenges this year, such as headset temperature control. Apple is expected to overcome these technical hurdles in 2023, paving the way for the release of the first model of the Apple XR headset. With the release of the headset, our view of reality will probably change quickly in the coming years, both literally and figuratively.
Whether the first version of the VR headset will be available to everyone in 2023 remains to be seen. In any case, we certainly expect developers to get their hands on the first models of the Apple XR next year. They can then get to work perfecting software and developing games. Anyway, we can’t wait!
2. The new Mac Pro will be introduced next year
There were rumors this year that a new Mac Pro would be introduced. However, the long-awaited update did not materialize, so it is inevitable that the new Mac Pro will be released next year. Especially since Apple already confirmed this year that it is working on a new Mac Pro.
According to rumors, Apple’s most powerful machine will receive a completely renewed chip with no less than 40 cores. The device is expected to run on Apple Silicon, or computer chips that are made by Apple itself. With the release of the new Mac Pro, Apple probably has one of the most powerful computers available today. It remains to be hoped that Apple will overhaul the cheese slicer design.
3. The HomePod will get a major upgrade in 2023
In 2018, Apple launched the HomePod: a smart speaker with voice commands via Siri. It can also serve as a hub for your entire smart home. However, it didn’t sell as well as Apple originally envisioned. The sound was good, but the price was too high. We expect Apple to release a significantly updated HomePod in 2023.
The new HomePod is likely similar in size and design to the original. We do expect the smart speaker to be equipped with a new screen at the top, with which you can do more than just adjust the volume. According to rumors, this display has multi-touch, which means that you operate the smart speaker as you are used to with your iPhone.
In addition, we also expect the sound to be greatly improved, so that the new HomePod will last a few more years. Apple may combine the new HomePod with the Apple TV, so that the HomePod TV really becomes the center of the house. In any case, there will be a new HomePod, the price of which must be lower than the first generation to make it a success.
4. New model of the AirPods Max will be released next year
The first version of the AirPods Max is already a while ago, which makes it more than likely that the headphones will get an upgrade next year. The first version of the luxury headphones was already good, but there was criticism of the high price of the product. What is our expectation for Apple in 2023 regarding the AirPods Max 2?
The new version of the AirPods Max will have a USB-C connection and (hopefully) a different operation. The AirPods Max are operated with the rotating crown that we still know from the Apple Watch, which is now due for replacement. The AirPods Max 2 will hopefully get touch controls. With this you can swipe or tap on the earcup to adjust the volume or change the song.
There is also a chance that the AirPods Max 2 will get ear detection for your left and right ear. This means you don’t have to check each time which is the left or right side of the headphones before you put them on. The AirPods Max then detects whether your left or right ear is. The AirPods Max 2 is therefore mainly improved on a technical level, so that it is easier to use.
MacBook Fold and Apple Car: 2023 is still too early
The rumors about a folding screen have increased again in recent months. It is almost certain that a foldable iPhone will not come (for the time being), but a foldable iPad and MacBook are becoming increasingly likely.
We have no expectations that Apple will come up with this in 2023. There are still quite a few technical hurdles to overcome before the foldable screen can be brought to market. We therefore expect Apple to use next year to further develop this screen, so that it will be available for the iPad and MacBook in 2024.
The same goes for the Apple Car. Project Titan is in full swing and everything indicates that Apple will release a car, but this will not happen until 2026 at the earliest. We are certainly curious what will come out in 2023!
