iPhone Tips: These 4 Tricks Are Super Handy

This week we’ve gathered some useful iPhone tips together. We show, among other things, how you can film with photo filters on your iPhone and turn on your flashlight by tapping.

1. Turn on flashlight by tapping

As an experienced iPhone user, you naturally know how to turn the flashlight on and off at lightning speed. But it can be done even faster by tapping the back twice. You have to set this up.

  • Open ‘Settings’ and scroll down;
  • Tap ‘Accessibility > Touch’;
  • Scroll down and choose ‘Tap back’;
  • Choose ‘Double tap’;
  • Scroll down and choose ‘Flashlight’.

Now when you tap the back of your iPhone twice in quick succession with your finger, the flashlight will turn on. In the same way you switch it off again. It even works when your iPhone is in a (not too thick) case.

We personally found ‘Double tap’ for the flashlight and ‘Tap triple’ for a Shazam assignment super handy!

2. Faster Formatting in Notes

There are several ways to format your text in the Notes app. In the second tip of our Weekly iPhone Tips, we’ll show you that there’s an extra hidden menu that gives you quicker access to some formatting options.

  • Open the note with the text you want to edit;
  • Tap the text in the note and the plus sign in the gray circle (on the right, above the keyboard);
  • Place your finger on the ‘Aa’ button and wait a moment, a new menu will now appear.

3. Drag text and links to other apps

You may already be using this feature in iOS 15 for dragging and dropping photos, but did you know that this trick also works with website links and text? It goes like this:

  • Open Safari and briefly press the link of your choice, until a menu appears;
  • Move your finger so that the link moves with your finger;
  • Continue to hold the link and use another finger to open an app;
  • Drag the link to the right place and release your finger. The link will then be placed there.

Similarly, you can drag text into another app. The only difference is that you have to select the text first. Then hold your finger on the selected text until a menu appears.

4. Filming with photo filters on your iPhone

It’s already the last of our iPhone tips, but certainly not the least fun. When you open the camera app to take a photo and swipe up, a row of options will appear. The rightmost one contains a number of filters that you can use in your photos.

If you switch to video mode, these filters are not available. However, there is a way to use them anyway.

Make video with filters on iPhone

  1. Launch the Camera app and enter ‘Photo’ mode;
  2. Swipe up, and tap the right-most dot (with the three circles) that appears. These are the photo filters;
  3. Select the desired filter you want to use;
  4. Hold down your finger on the white button and drag it to the right, inside the white circle;
  5. Shoot the video and tap the red button when you’re done.
