These 10 gaming consoles use the most electricity

Rising energy prices are a burden for many people. But how much electricity do game consoles, which are one of the most popular hobbies, actually consume? In our weekly ranking, we show you which ten consoles use the most electricity.

A high image resolution and complex lighting effects are not exactly effective in terms of power consumption. The latest games consoles, in particular, consume a lot of electricity compared to other new electronic devices. This is not least due to the increased consumption of so-called 4K games.

Game consoles: These consoles use the most electricity

Eurogamer, the British online magazine for computer games, has examined the power consumption of various game consoles in game operation. To determine the annual costs, the magazine assumes an average usage time of three hours per day.

The calculation basis is a price of 42 cents per kilowatt hour from August 2022. In the following ranking we present the results and thus also the biggest power guzzlers among the game consoles.

10th place: Nintendo Switch OLED

The new edition of the Nintendo Switch has been on the market since October 2021. With a larger OLED screen and improved sound quality, this Nintendo model ranks tenth. With an average of three hours of use per day, the console consumes seven kilowatt hours of electricity per year. In terms of costs, that makes sense 2.30 euros comparatively little.
