The traditional Berlin fair is canceled
After the Ifa was tantamount to a ghost town last year, the Berlin fair has been completely canceled this year. The electronics fair is not expected to open its doors again until 2022.
In 2020, Ifa was one of the few technology fairs that held a physical event despite the corona pandemic. Due to the high requirements regarding the number of participants and distance rules, however, there was not much of the usual trade fair activity. In April of this year, however, it was said that the Ifa would take place again in full in 2021. The operating company GFU has now moved away from this.
There are currently too many imponderables, explains GFU Supervisory Board Chairman Kai Hillebrandt. “Participation in the trade fair cannot therefore be planned responsibly at this point in time,” said Hillebrandt. The Berlin fair boss Martin Ecknig agrees: “The global pandemic containment, including the introduction of vaccination programs, as well as the resumption of international travel, did not take place at the hoped-for pace. In view of this development, this difficult and disappointing decision was inevitable. “

Ifa 2022 is to take place
For one of the oldest industrial trade fairs in Germany, the return to normal will take a little longer than originally planned, but next year the Ifa should be able to take place again as usual. There is already a date for this: From September 2 to 6, 2022, all kinds of equipment from the field of entertainment and consumer electronics will be exhibited again in the exhibition halls under the Berlin radio tower.
The current pandemic-related restrictions should also be removed by 2022. A limitation of the exhibition stands to 200 square meters and the maximum number of participants of 1,000 people per day and event, as they were in 2020, will probably no longer exist next year.
