The top 10 worst passwords ever
You almost need a password for everything. And there are many wrong choices in this. The top 10 worst passwords is the result of this.
You read it more and more often: people or companies are being hacked. And often this can happen because the criminals can get the password. That’s mainly because we choose pretty obvious passwords. And that’s stupid. Very stupid.
Do not
With this list, we want to avoid choosing the password 123456. The ‘Awful Password List’ is an annual project of the password manager NordPass. In fact, we’ve known for years that these kinds of passwords are bad. But they still appear in the lists of most used passwords to log in to your email, for example.
Most of these, like “123456789” or “000000,” involve some sort of number-mashing on your keyboard, which the company estimates would be relatively easy for any coder to crack in about a second. Other popular choices like “password” and “abc123,” are just as easy to crack.

While “qwerty” and “abc123” are obvious contenders on the list, there are others less obvious – but equally bad!

It is striking that we so often opt for numbers. Most of these passwords can be cracked in less than a second, according to NordPass, while the best, such as “myspace1” and “michelle,” can take up to 3 hours (ranked in the top 200). NordPass CEO Jonas Karklys remains stunned and sad. “Unfortunately, passwords are getting weaker and people are still not adhering to proper password hygiene,” Karklys said in a statement. “It is important to understand that passwords are the gateway to our digital lives, and as we spend more and more time online, it becomes extremely important to take better care of our cybersecurity.”
