The popular password manager gives user data to seven other tools

The German organization Exodus, which brings together security analysts and publishes statistics on various applications on its website within the field of user data protection, has disturbing information about one of the most popular digital password managers. This is the LastPass application, which seems to share user data with seven other “tracking” tools. Although their task is “only” the collection of basic information for marketing purposes, their very presence in the application is quite suspicious.

Four of these trackers belong directly to Google. These are Analytics, CrashLytics, Firebase Analytics and Tag Manager. These are relatively well-known trackers designed to report bugs and especially to collect basic user data as needed information about the device, mobile carrier, type of LastPass account or ID of a specific person within the Google ads database. LastPass also shares user data with AppsFlyer, MixPanel and Segment, which use it to target ads more accurately.

A spokesman for LastPass responded to the findings by saying that trackers help improve the user experience with application. He added that sensitive user data is safe and that it is possible to manually turn off individual monitors in the settings.
