The notch on the MacBook Pro M1X confirmed in the photo?
A notch on the 2021 MacBook Pro M1X? This is information that few people expected. It’s a rumor circulating this week and it seems to be confirmed with a photo released today. But it is important to take the information with a grain of salt.
A notch on the new MacBook Pro?
It all started yesterday when a certain Reddit user has published supposed information on the MacBook Pro M1X that Apple will announce Monday during its keynote. He mentioned in particular the presence of a notch, while specifying that Apple would not offer Face ID so far and would stay with Touch ID. Such a choice would be surprising, but let’s admit.
He went on to quote the MacBook Pro screen definitions found in the macOS Monterey beta: 3024 x 1964 pixels for the 14-inch model and 3456 by 2234 pixels for the 16-inch model. He notes that by removing 74 pixels (the supposed space that the notch would occupy), we would obtain 3,024 x 1,890 pixels and 3,024 x 1,890 pixels, which would make a ratio of 16:10, the same as found on existing MacBooks.
Today comes a photo that has been published on Weibo and which would be, according to its author, the MacBook Pro M1X with the notch on the upper part. The photo is however very blurry and it is difficult to know if it is genuine. As we said before: be careful with this rumor.
As a reminder, rumors have indeed made it known that Apple’s new laptop will have a new design with, in particular, reduced bezels around the screen. This screen would be Mini-LED and could even have a refresh rate of 120 Hz. But a notch was never mentioned. All of this is surprising, especially since there is no lack of space on a laptop, unlike an iPhone. We will see what happens on Monday. The keynote will begin at 7 p.m. and will be watched live on iPhoneAddict.
