The new pixels can’t charge 30 watts, Google explains
Every year, flagship Pixels are bothered by software or hardware issues, and models from the new Google Pixel 6 series were no longer affected. The manufacturer has now clarified the last of these problems in a new post and explained why the new Pixels cannot charge 30 watts of power.
Google has never promised 30W charging support
Fans of the brand were excited about the introduction of the new generation of Pixels. The jump from the maximum charging power of 18 W offered by Pixel 5 to 30 W is admirable. However, Google has never said that the new Pixels support 30W charging. The company just said that Pixel 6 can charge from zero to 50% in 30 minutes using a 30W charging adapter.
The basic model actually only supports 21 W charging and Pixel 6 Pro 23 W. These are also the maximum values that both smartphones can reach. During charging, the energy flow changes in an effort to extend battery life. The current performance is determined by several factors, such as the device temperature or the current and total battery capacity.
In most cases, however, the smartphone deliberately slows down charging as it begins to approach full capacity. Conversely, at low capacity, it will try to maximize charging power. It is even possible to turn on adaptive charging in the system settings, which optimizes performance when charging overnight.
