The market for wearable electronics is growing, with Xiaomi second behind Apple

The market for wearable electronics has become so attractive to smartphone manufacturers that the introduction of the flagship smartphone is no longer possible without the introduction of new TWS headphones or smart watches. For example, during Thursday’s presentation of the Samsung Galaxy S21, the TWS Galaxy Buds Pro headphones were also introduced. According to the portal GSMarena this market saw a significant increase in sales in the third quarter of 2020. The main thing was going well Apple and Chinese Xiaomi.

Headphones play a major role in wearable electronics, with Xiaomi in second place

In making this statement, the portal draws on the statistics of the analytical company Counterpoint Reasearch. According to her, bluetooth headphones accounted for up to 52% of wearable electronics sold in Q3 2020. Compared to 2019, this is an increase of up to 83%. A total of 238 million headphones were sold during the year. Sales of TWS headphones are dominated by the American company Apple with a share of up to 29%. In second place is the Chinese company Xiaomi with a share of 13%. Its Redmi AirDots S headphones have also become popular on the Slovak market.

Only behind them were the South Korean manufacturer Samsung and the American manufacturer of audio equipment JBL with the same share of 5%. From the smartphone manufacturers, the Japanese Sony and the Chinese Realme also reached the ranking of the 10 best-selling manufacturers of TWS headphones. In the case of Realme, however, analysts expect that it will go even higher in the rankings this year. It is also interesting that half of the brands in the ranking produce headphones with a price below $ 50.

The trend of removing the 3.5 mm jack in smartphones and headphones from their packaging has become a strong catalyst for the growth of the TWS headphone segment. It has also been helped that the consumption of multimedia via the mobile Internet is growing, making TWS headphones another essential accessory.

How are the other types of wearable electronics?

Smart watches and bracelets are in second place with a 49% share of wearable electronics sold in the third quarter of 2020. According to analyst Sujeong Lima, however, these devices will expect an increase in the number of units sold in 2021. The reason is to normalize economies after the coronavirus pandemic and increase interest in health and fitness. The wearable electronics that the user attaches to the skin or body had an equal share of 1% in the third quarter. Smart eye products are a bit better with a share of 3%.
