The January update for Google Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro is finally out

We’re already halfway through January, but it’s here: the January update of Google Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro. The December update already came with significant improvements, but there was also a bug that made phones less good reception. So turned back. Thankfully, there’s now the January update to glue all that together.

Emergency call

Google shows on the developer website that the update is being rolled out. This update comes with all the changes that were initially promised for December. The Teams error was also considered, which prevented you from calling emergency services if you had Microsoft Teams installed on your Pixel.

The December update was huge: it brought over 100 tweaks and improvements, making Android 12 and Pixel much more stable. Users do need that, since the fact that the last update had to be rolled back just radiated anything but stability.

Quick Tap to Snap

Now, among other things, the fingerprint scanner and the camera are being improved, support for 23 Watt wireless charging is coming with the Pixel Stand of the second generation. This update also comes with ‘Quick Tap to Snap’, which allows you to create content for Snapchat even faster.

You can now sideload the update on your Pixel 6 or Pixel 6 Pro, although the official update sent over-the-air has already arrived on some devices. However, give Google some time: probably all devices will be equipped with the much-needed update next week.

January update for Pixel 6

Although sideloading is undoubtedly not a big risk after all the hassle in December, in some cases it is better to wait a while: after all, if nothing is found that is really unacceptable, the update can just be rolled back. That wouldn’t be good for Google’s image, but leaving a major flaw in an update is of course not a good idea. So far, we haven’t heard any negative reports, so things seem to be all right with the update this month.
