The ‘independent’ Poco remains dependent (leaked)
Since this year, the legendary Poco would be independent, but goodies unveil a very dependent new phone.
Since the Poco F1, the Chinese brand has gained some sort of legendary status as an innovative flagship killer. Unfortunately, they have barely managed to retain that energy. That had partly to do with some decent but somewhat less impressive smartphones. And partly with the fact that they never actually have one new ones smartphone. Now the ‘independent’ Poco says it will once again release a particularly dependent smartphone.
‘Independent’ Poco
Poco gained fame with the F1, but we’ve only seen re-branded Xiaomi Redmis from the company since then. After the F1, the brand launched the F2 Pro, Poco X2 and the Poco M2 Pro; all Redmi smartphones with a new denominator. Both companies are subsidiaries of Xiaomi.
Goodies from XDA-Developers reveal that another ‘new’ Poco is on the way (via: AndroidAuthority). The standard device from the new Redmi K40 series would get a Poco look and name. The POCO M2012K11AG (code name) gets exactly the same specs as the Redmi K40 and that is now absolutely no coincidence.
Well, in principle it is not bad at all if (sister) companies borrow from each other. Re-branding is happening everywhere and can, for example, help to enter other sales markets. But in the case of Poco, it’s just a little embarrassing that what they say is the ‘independent’ company (which they’d been since January) barely released an independent smartphone. They make such a point of it and it doesn’t seem right at all.
Obviously, this assumption is based on leaks. It could just be that there is no re-branded Redmi, but finally a new one. For example, an earlier teaser finally suggested an actual successor to the F1.
