The hover function of the Apple Pencil is not reserved for the iPad Pro M2 (well, almost…)
Apple highlighted the function well on the page dedicated to new iPad Pro M2 : the new iPad Pro M2 are now able to detect theApple Pencil 2 even before the accessory touches the screen, when the “mine” of the accessory is located 12 mm above the screen. The Hover function thus makes it possible to better position the tip of the Apple Pencil in a drawing app (among others). A priori, this function is exclusive to the new iPad Pro equipped with an M2 chip… except that it is not (totally) true.
Thus, our colleague from Igen has indeed figured out that we could have a similar function with older iPad models provided of course that the tablet runs on iOS 16. Activating the accessibility option Text hover allows to obtain a result similar to the function of the new iPad Pro M2, similar, but not quite identical therefore since the positioning of the stylus above the slab results here in a small “magnifying glass” box located at the top of screen, a box that displays the area just below the stylus.
