The founder of Yaak Technologies uses these apps
In the “Homescreen!” series we present the homescreens of people from the social media, marketing, media and tech industries – including app recommendations and tips for everything from to-do lists to small games in between. Today: Martin Zielinski, founder and CTO of Yaak Technologies.
Since I can’t get through my workday without a structure, the most important app for me is the calendar – without my calendar I would be lost. It’s also one of the few apps that allows notifications.
I use two widgets on my home screen for the daily and monthly overview. This helps me to always keep an overview and to plan ahead.

We decided to overhaul all communication within the team Slack (for Android) and we have never looked back. I restricted the notifications for the app. This means that I only get a notification if I am mentioned or written to directly. Besides the calendar app, I probably use Slack the most.
As already mentioned, the calendar is the be-all and end-all for me. The app claims (for Android) is integrated into my calendar and allows me to easily plan upcoming tasks. The planned tasks are then automatically pushed into free calendar slots by the app.
The practical thing about this is that only when the deadline is approaching does the app block the time required for the task in my calendar. The app also helps to find the best time for 1:1 meetings, but I still have to test that.
Actually, I’m more of the analog type when it comes to notes and I write everything down, but when I’m on the go or my notebook isn’t within reach, it has changed Google Keep (for Android) as my savior in need.
mail, music and social media
Music plays an important role in my life. I need them for concentration, but also to relax. That’s why I listen to music almost all the time. There are also a few selected podcasts that I listen to regularly. In plain language, without Spotify (for Android) nothing works at first.
For my private communication I use the free e-mail service Proton Mail (for Android) that securely encrypts my messages. However, I still use it far too seldom, but for the next year I have made it my goal to shift all of my e-mail traffic to Proton.
There is little that currently interests me about social media, except BeReal (for Android). The concept of a candid photo from one’s own (every) day inspired me immediately and is an incredibly likeable way for me to stay in contact with friends and to take part in their everyday life.
