Nokia 2710 Navigation Edition

In this edition of ‘The forgotten phone’ we go back thirteen years in time; to 2009. A year earlier, Google Maps was released for mobile devices, but Nokia still had a significant market share with Nokia Maps, also known as Ovi Maps and HERE. There were also navigation editions of various devices, such as the Nokia 6210 Navigator. Another example is the Nokia 2710 Navigation Edition, a phone that we take you through today in our weekly column.

Navigation

Nokia released this Nokia 2710 Navigator Edition in 2009, and it also appeared on the market in the Netherlands. It was one of the few devices on the market with free navigation, which was also fully equipped. Not only for car navigation, but also if you’re on foot, the Nokia could help you.

The device was equipped with Nokia Maps and had a digital compass on board. The Nokia’s focus was really on navigating, with voice-activated instructions, of course. The maps could be downloaded via the computer, via special software. It allowed you to download different countries and regions to the phone at no extra cost. The Nokia 2710 Navigator also had the POI locations saved, with which you could search for interesting locations such as a supermarket, pharmacy or gas station. With the option ‘Send location’ your location was not shared as it is now, but a screenshot of the map with your location was made, as it were, and sent as an MMS message.
