The equinox, what does that mean?
Today, March 21, marks the equinox: one of the two days of the year when day and night are of equal length. Good news for solar panel owners.

What is the Equinox?
The equinox, also known as equinox, is a point in the year when day and night are exactly equal in length. There are two equinoxes: March 20 to 21 and September 22 to 23. These are the spring equinox and the autumn equinox, respectively. The word equinox comes from Latin. It is a contraction of two words: equi, equal, and nox, night.
Half a year with low heating costs
As of today, we are again in the half year, which has the most hours of sunshine. Good new. Especially in these times of geopolitical tensions and energy crisis, because we don’t have to turn on the central heating much or at all. It is true that more air conditioning and ventilation is needed on hot summer days, but the good news is that this is precisely when the sun is shining brightly.
So we can use the virtually free electricity in the spring and summer, when there is a huge surplus of solar power, to dissipate the heat. In that respect, half the year with few hours of sunshine, autumn and winter, is a much more annoying time.
Solar panels, air conditioning and solar water heater
Gadgets that allow you to benefit most from the sun are of course mainly solar panels. Do you have solar panels? Then you can now enjoy free and abundant power. The net metering scheme will gradually be phased out, but that does not necessarily mean that you will no longer enjoy solar panels. On the contrary, if you manage to adjust the power consumption to the moment the sun shines, you can still enjoy free power between the spring and autumn equinox.
This is especially true for, as we mentioned earlier, air conditioning. Air conditioning is known as a major energy consumer. A large air conditioning unit can easily consume 1 to 2 kWh per hour.
Dynamic power contract after the equinox
But there doesn’t have to be a disaster if you have installed solar panels, because they can then feed you with the abundant electricity during the day. That’s why it’s smartest if you have a dynamic power contract for this case.
Keep in mind that the electricity prices with a dynamic electricity contract are much higher in the evening and at night than during the day. But of course you take that into account by planning your laundry and vacuum cleaner round during the day after the spring equinox, for example.
Enjoy long summer evenings
Now that the weather conditions are becoming summer again after the equinox, you can also sit in the garden. Due to climate change, the summers are getting warmer, so you have the most pleasant climate, especially in the evening. If you have a garden, now is the time to prepare it for summer.
Think, for example, of a few beautiful garden lamps, energy efficient of course, and a vegetable garden, which you can use quickly, especially during this time.
Food from your own garden
With a vegetable garden robot such as the Farmbot you can enjoy fresh vegetables to the fullest, so that you will experience a healthy and affordable crop.
Or you can of course plant some vegetables yourself. Fast-growing and easy-to-grow vegetables include spinach, radishes and lettuce.
Do you also want cheap and healthy vegetables in winter? Plan now already kale, winter carrots and put in some cold greenhouses. But that’s another concern at the fall equinox.
