The CTIA checked the chargers. Three are life-threatening
The Czech Trade Inspection Authority (CTIA) has embarked on inspection of charging adapters on the domestic market and found that the vast majority of them did not meet all the required parameters. Although these were mostly problems with marking or documentation, there were also chargers that were technically imperfect and some even downright dangerous. The CTIA inspected USB chargers, chargers for laptops and tablets and universal chargers for rechargeable batteries as part of an international inspection. The aim was to check compliance with EU regulations and directives, including regulations and standards of Czech legislation.
The Inspectorate performed 39 inspections on the domestic market, of which took a total of 46 types of products. She found deficiencies in 33 of them. These were mainly deficiencies in the accompanying documentation such as instructions for use and safety information (6 cases) or shortcomings of mandatory labeling such as missing contact details of the manufacturer or importer (20 cases) or the data has not been flagged enabling product identification (1 case).
As part of this inspection, the CTIA also collected 14 types of chargers for professional testing. The technical test facility found that 11 types are technically unsatisfactory. A risk analysis was performed on these products. In 1 case it was determined serious risk, in 2 cases high risk. These three specific cases are listed below.
Extremely dangerous chargers according to the CTIA:
It has been imposed so far for the identified shortcomings 8 fines in the total amount of CZK 31,000, for others, the amount of the fine has not yet been finally decided. The results of the inspection focused on USB chargers for mobile devices confirm that most of the inspected products have shortcomings of both technical and administrative nature. The CTIA will continue its inspections.
