The crisis continues, the application has seen a decrease in the number of downloads
Facebook is facing more bad news. All of the company’s cases about tracking users and how it collects large amounts of personal data were signed by the number of downloads of the mobile application. Analysis of the company AppFigures, which was reported by the portal 9to5Mac, revealed that the number of application downloads decreased by 30% year – on – year.
The Facebook mobile application had an average of 15 million downloads per week in May 2020. By June, that number had dropped to 13 million, and now the app can’t get more than 11 million downloads in the Apple App Store and the Google Play store combined. The first significant decline occurred in June 2020, right after Apple introduced the iOS 14 with improved privacy.
The number of Facebook downloads could be affected by several factors
AppFigures points out that this is not the first time that Facebook has experienced fluctuations in downloads. However, this is the first time that numbers have dropped significantly for more than a year. The analyst firm believes that this may be related to the growing popularity of TikToku. TikTok is currently the most downloaded application in the Apple App Store and in the Google Play store.
The second reason is privacy concerns. Facebook is actively fighting the changes Apple has introduced to iOS 14 and encourages recent users to allow tracking if they want to Facebook and Instagram stayed free. The company also forces WhatsApp users to accept the new terms and conditions, otherwise you will lose the ability to use some features of the application.
