Verifying a Twitter account is said to cost $20
So far, all users have had the opportunity to request verification of their accounts free of charge. Like the US tech magazine The Verge reported, but only Twitter Blue subscribers should have this option in the future. A blue tick in the profile in turn indicates a verified account.
Verify Twitter: Only 90 days to pay new price
Musk has also instructed his employees to upgrade the optional Twitter Blue to a more expensive subscription. Users are currently paying $4.99 per month for this.
According to internal reports, however, the price will soon rise to $19.99 per month. Already verified users only have 90 days to complete the new subscription. If they miss this deadline, they apparently lose their blue tick.
Musk threatens layoffs
To ensure that the idea is implemented promptly, Musk puts pressure on Twitter employees with an ultimatum. The employees have until November 7, 2022 – just one week – to implement the new instruction.
Musk announced in advance in one tweet indicate that the entire verification process will be revised. The Verge assumes that this also includes dealing with bots.
Musk plans mass layoffs on Twitter
Musk’s plan to lay off about 75 percent of the employees has also been in the media for some time. This process should start this week, but will affect fewer employees. However, the managers of the individual departments have already drawn up lists of the employees to be made redundant.
Musk fired Twitter’s previous CEO Parag Agrawal last week. Chief Financial Officer Ned Segal and Legal Affairs and Policy Chief Vijaya Gadde also had to vacate their desks.
Twitter Blue was launched just under a year ago. Musk is keen that subscriptions account for half of Twitter’s total revenue.
