The better Apple TV remote control is now available for everyone
Apple’s latest update to the Apple TV remote has straightened out a lot of things that had previously gone wrong. But Telekom does it even better than the original – and is now even topping it up.
Update from 08/24/2021: In terms of functionality, Telekom has already done better than the original with its own Apple TV remote control. Now you go one step further, because the extra device is also sold individually – not only in combination with a new Apple TV (source: Telekom). What Deutsche Telekom is doing better than Apple with the new remote control is revealed below in the article – and that brings together a lot.
Whether that justifies the high price of 40 euros – possibly plus 6.95 euros shipping costs – is questionable. But whoever decides to do this must know: the Telekom remote control is Compatible only with an Apple TV 4K or Apple TV HD. Other versions or other devices of MagentaTV are not supported.
Original article:
In recent years, the iPhone manufacturer has had to take a lot of criticism with the Apple TV, especially the less intuitive Siri Remote with touchpad caused desperation everywhere – simple, blind operation was virtually impossible. The latest model, presented in April 2021, eliminated this shortcoming. The new Siri Remote is now much easier to control again. Instead of a normal touchpad, there is now a much more intuitive touch-based clickpad. Indeed the remote control is still not perfect.
Apple TV at Telekom with a new remote control
Like it in part Telekom is now demonstrating even better. From July 20th, it will also be offering Apple TV itself, of course in conjunction with the in-house Magenta TV offer. The important extra: Its own remote control, which is also certified by Apple (Source: Telekom).
In contrast to the Siri Remote, there are still additional buttons on the “Magenta remote control”. Clever: They are all illuminated! Why hasn’t Apple figured it out yet? They’re really practical in the dark home theater on the couch. Incidentally, the special buttons allow you to change channels directly using a rocker switch and there is also a separate button for the EPG (Electronic Program Guide). Like the original, the Telekom remote control includes a button for Siri voice control, but not on the side, but classically on the front.
Differences in detail
But does the telecom remote control of the Apple TV really do everything right? Almost, because unfortunately the network operator’s model does without the good looks of the Apple original – The motto is plastic instead of aluminum. Worth mentioning: Like the new Siri Remote, the Telekom device does without the sensors of the previous generation. Accelerometers and gyroscopes are no longer available for game control, instead you should rather connect a PlayStation or Xbox controller via Bluetooth. Speaking of which: Only the alternative remote control is included in the scope of delivery of the Apple TV from Telekom, so the Siri Remote will be completely replaced.
What does the new Apple TV 2021 actually offer? In the video stuck the answers:
There are no differences in price. The price for the model with 32 GB of memory is 199 euros. Alternatively, Telekom customers can also rent the device for 10 euros a month. Important to know: a Contract is mandatory and would also like to be paid 10 euros a month. Ergo: Only worthwhile for customers who really want to use the Magenta TV offer. Nobody will strike because of the remote control alone.
