The champion in Guitar Hero, nicknamed Schmooey, who was considered one of the best, if not the very best player, is actually a cheater. He was gradually convicted by people researching his videos when he inadvertently revealed himself on one of the live broadcasts, but at first he defended himself through accusations. Schmooey was praised for his demanding or impossible performances, which he was able to play by playing the plastic guitar. In the end, however, it turned out that his help was not only talent, but also fraudulent software and video manipulation. This is not just a matter of the last appearance with which he aroused suspicion, but also of many other videos from the many years he worked in the gaming community.
However, Schmooey is not the only capable Guitar Hero player in the world, so his performance of 9 Patterns Of Eternal Pain on the stream did not escape those who can do the guitar like him. Other experienced players encountered several inconsistencies, especially regarding the suspicious synchronization of the score counter and the actual Schmooey moves. In addition, he was betrayed at the very end by Windows Media Player, on which the whole experiment ran, and Schmooey only pretended to be a live experiment. In the background, there was a recording – probably modified so that everything turned out according to the imagination – which the audience should never have learned. However, because it was a live broadcast, Schmooey could no longer disguise the unexpected revelation.
This finding led to a gradual examination of other videos that Schmooey recorded during his “career”. Their author himself first stated that in some cases he actually cheated and helped himself with several techniques, but the rest of the videos and therefore the successes, according to Schmooey, should have been created quite legitimately. Unfortunately, the search involved a number of people who went through his videos really carefully and gradually found other inconsistencies that showed much more frequent video manipulation, speed changes, and, as Schmooey admitted under the circumstances, the use of the Cheat Engine. So in addition to cheating himself, Schmooey also has a lie to his credit, until the last moment when he refused accusations in front of his viewers.
Schmooey eventually confessed, but only at the last possible moment, when he had no choice. He also came with an apology, but it’s no wonder that he disappointed his fans, as evidenced by the comments below the video. The fact remains that Schmooey was a really great player, but not as good as he was. The problem was that the fans supported him financially during his tenure. He commented on this in his last message, which was addressed directly to the community, stating that he had returned all contributions. He also intends to go through his achievements and clean up the real successes of the undeserved, although he expects that he will no longer be very credible in this regard. On that occasion, he hid all his videos and published a list of honest performances.
