We have successfully completed the series about games from the Dune universe, but Frank Herbert’s fans don’t have to look back only at the past, but on the contrary, look forward to the future. We have written several times on the Vortex about new titles from this universe, to which the Norwegian company Funcom has rights. But there was peace around them for a while. Now we have finally learned more interesting details. The German team Nukklear, which also has the recent reincarnation of Comanche, which is now managed by the Brno studio Ashborne Games, has joined Funcom’s internal team, which is working on an online open world survival.

In addition to their own projects, Nukklear has in the past participated in porting Super Meat Boy Forever, UI to the remake of Destroy All Humans or Everspace 2. Funcom announced that it had rights to Dun in 2019. Following the acquisition of Tencent, the vision was to be further enhanced and it is not the only title from this universe that Funcom is to release. But for the others, he may be looking for whether he has already found some partners from the ranks of external studies. It has been repeatedly speculated that another game could be a real-time strategy. Funcom has previously entrusted work on the Conan Unconquered strategy to Petroglyph, a veteran and former Westwood Studios employee. The founding members of the team previously worked on games like Command & Conquer, Earth & Beyond or Dune II.

We wrote earlier that the first as yet unnamed game according to Dune from Funcom is aimed at PCs and consoles, it will be a more robust variation on Conan Exiles and it is several years apart since its release. According to earlier information, Funcom can create titles from the Dune universe exclusively for a period of six years. Based on this brand, it should produce at least three pieces. It can be assumed that due to the film license, the new play will have the same or very similar aesthetics as the film by director Denis Villeneuv. Funcom representatives have previously heard that the opportunity to work on games from this universe is a dream come true for them.
