Last year you read how to take the best fireworks photos with your iPhone, but this year fireworks are banned and we celebrate the turn of the year in small circles. If you want to ring in 2021 remotely with friends and family, there is fortunately still plenty to do. We have listed (in no particular order) the best apps and games for a fun New Year’s Eve.

1. Zoom

Zoom is one of the best-known apps for video calling, whether for your study, work or socializing. With Zoom you can catch up for free and easily with the people you would normally receive in your living room.

The app works on your iPhone and iPad, as well as with your MacBook or Android device. Put down your device and chat while enjoying an oliebol and a glass of champagne. A good internet connection is desirable.

2. Kahoot

With Kahoot you can easily and for free create an online quiz that you can play with friends all over the world. The quizmaster (kahoot) prepares the questions and answers in advance, after which the quiz starts at a time of his own choosing.

Everyone participates on their own iPhone or iPad and must not only answer the questions correctly, but also as quickly as possible. The best and fastest player therefore wins. Kahoot guarantees an exciting quiz no matter where you are.

3. Among Us

Among Us is the most popular iPhone game of the moment and also ideally suited to brighten up your old and new. The idea is simple and effective: together with up to nine other players, you carry out assignments in a space station, where one player must secretly sabotage the assignments. The other players have to unmask the saboteur and prevent the space station from being lost.

It makes Among Us an entertaining but also exciting game where you have to think carefully and deliberate. This is possible with acquaintances, but just as well with strangers.

4. House party

Do you need a real party from your own home? Then Houseparty is the app for old and new. With this app you can video call, chat and play games with up to eight people. All for free.

Houseparty works very user-friendly and is more reliable than the video calling function of, for example, WhatsApp. It is also limited to four people, which can be inconvenient if you want to count down to 2021 with a larger group of friends or family members.
