Price increase for the Tidal HiFi subscription
Those who use the Hi-Fi package are particularly affected. The subscription currently costs EUR 9.99 per month. From the beginning of August 2023, however, users should pay 10.99 euros – i.e. one euro more per month.
In the email, Tidal writes that the corresponding subscription will be automatically renewed at the new price. Users who do not want this would have the option of canceling their subscription before the next billing date. Otherwise, the company will debit the stored payment method.
Other Tidal subscriptions could also be affected
The price increase is already considered certain. However, the streaming service did not reveal whether other subscriptions were affected. In addition to the HiFi offer, users can also opt for the HiFi Plus package for EUR 19.99 per month, with which the transmission quality is even higher. There are also various subscriptions for families or students.
As from a post at Reddit shows that subscribers outside of Germany are also affected by the price increases at Tidal, for example in Argentina, Mexico, Spain and the USA. Tidal apparently already announced there that the costs for the family subscription will increase in the future.
Tidal gives no reason for the price increase
The service does not explain why Tidal is increasing the costs in its announcement. However, customers are angry. However, the price increase could be related to the overall rising costs: energy, wage and server costs have risen in recent months and could now be absorbed by companies in this way.
With the increase, Tidal joins the likes of Amazon Music Unlimited, Apple Music and Deezer Premium. They all opted for similar cost increases. Subscribers now also expect adjustments to Spotify. The streaming service is still offering its premium subscription at the original price of 9.99 euros per month.
However, there will also be a new hi-fi subscription for Spotify in the future, which could result in an increase in subscription prices. However, the service has not yet made an official statement.
