Tested by the editors: these are the best food processors of 2021

A handy overview.

Why is a food processor so useful?

A food processor takes a lot of work off your hands, because it chops, cuts, grinds or purees vegetables and fruit at lightning speed. The functions vary quite a bit per food processor. One is very simple, while the other can also steam or heat up. Are you regularly in the kitchen to prepare a lot of dishes in one go? Or do you like to serve your child a fresh snack? Then a food processor is a handy solution. Pasta sauces, soups or smoothies: you can think of it as crazy as a food processor will make it for you. For only cutting or pureeing, a stick blender or chopper is also sufficient. With a food processor you have the complete package: chopping, cutting, grating, mixing and pureeing. Usually you also get accessories, such as grating and cutting discs. Sometimes also a dough kneader or a steam function.

What should you pay attention to when buying a food processor?

We list the most important points for attention:

Ease of use
Ask yourself a few questions: what do you want to use the food processor for? How often do you need it? And what features does he need? You can always find a copy that meets your needs.

Appearance
You would think that the appearance of a food processor is not so important, but if it is on the counter every day, you talk differently. Don’t have that much space? Then a small device might be more convenient.

To clean
Good to know: sometimes not all parts of an appliance can go in the dishwasher. And washing everything by hand can be a hassle. So check if it is dishwasher-proof.

BPA-free
Bisphenol A (BPA) is a chemical used to produce polycarbonate, a type of plastic. It is only harmful if it is heated and you ingest it through food. Babies and children are even more sensitive to this. Therefore, choose a food processor that is 100% BPA-free.

Price
The prices of food processors vary quite a bit. Do you want a device with all the trimmings? Then you usually lose a little more money. A simple food processor is somewhat cheaper. Go for good value for money.

The best food processors of 2021

Kek Mama and Ouders van Nu tested six food processors for you, each with different functions. These six food processors have been tested:

And the winner is…

The Philips Avent stands out, but it hardly differs from the Alecto 5-in-1. Philip’s food processor scores mainly on user-friendliness. ‘Since its arrival in the house, the freezer has been full of vegetable snacks, sauces and even home-made strawberry and pear ice creams’, says editor Marjolein, who tested all food processors for a number of weeks. Other advantages: nice maintenance, safe device and does its job while you are busy with other things. And not unimportant: a big hit with Marjolein’s daughter of 14 months. There is nothing to fault with the Alecto 5-in-1 and the price-quality ratio is completely correct. The Béaba Babycook Original is a bit simpler, but there’s nothing wrong with it. If we look at looks, the KitchenAid food processor wins out. A real eye-catcher with many luxurious options. But according to Marjolein, it is not the first food processor that you think of when you want to make baby snacks. The NutriBullet and NutriBullet Baby end up at the bottom of the list, simply because they can only blend. Are you going on vacation? Then these devices are useful. Below you can read an extensive review with the pros and cons of all food processors.

Philips Avent 4-in-1 healthy baby food maker SCF885/01

‘The Philips Avent 4-in-1 is easy to use. Fresh puree and bites are pureed in this way and possibly steamed, smooth and without lumps, and the device is easy to clean.’

Making a stock of soup, baby snacks or smoothies is no problem: the content of the jug is 1 liter. And while the machine gets to work for you, you can get back to work (or finally drink that coffee). When you hear a clear beep, the meal is ready. Heating and cooking raw and frozen ingredients is also no problem for this food processor. Only downside: when you click the device on the base, you don’t hear such a clear click, so you might think it’s not seated properly. This food processor is a godsend for your child’s first snacks. But it will also come in handy later on – when your baby eats somewhat coarser textures.

Yes, this one from Philips is for me

Alecto BFP-66 – 5-in-1 healthy baby food food processor

“This device does what it’s supposed to do. Safe, easy and therefore definitely recommended.’

The Alecto 5-in-1 has quite a few functions: in addition to steaming and grinding, it can also sterilize bottles and teats and heat food. Marjolein would not use him for those last two functions, because it takes quite a while. Another downside: the lids slip out of your hands quickly when opening and closing. But all in all, this is a very fine food processor. Compact, light and ideal for preparing baby food. And not unimportant: it is safe. Did you forget it while you’re out the door? No problem, because it turns itself off after half an hour.

Béaba Babycook Original

‘A nutritious snack is made in an instant. The parts are also easy to remove and clean.’

Is convenience at the top of your wish list? Then the Béaba Babycook Original is a nice one. You can’t really go wrong, because the device has one button and two settings: one for pureeing, one for steaming. Small point of criticism: the lid gets very hot during steaming. And mashing carrots doesn’t go flawlessly (literally). The mixing bowl discolours quite quickly. But that certainly doesn’t make it any less good.

Give me this food processor

KitchenAid 5KFP0719 Food Processor

“The KitchenAid 5KFP0719 looks impressive and is incredibly versatile with all the included accessories.”

Grating, cutting, chopping or kneading dough: this BPA-free food processor does everything (well, almost everything) you ask. And with a volume of 1.7 liters, it is also wonderfully spacious. Are you looking for a device that is only suitable for baby snacks? Then this KitchenAid is not necessary. But if you want to go ahead with the same food processor for the time being, this is a powerful and luxurious kitchen aid.

This KitchenAid looks beautiful in my kitchen

NutriBullet 5-piece 600 watt

‘Make your smoothie with it after exercise, blend a bowl of frozen fruit as a baby snack or throw in (unpeeled) vegetables to quickly prepare a sauce or soup.’

Sometimes easy: a food processor without bells and whistles. Just press the top and off you go. You can only blend with it, but that is very powerful and lightning fast. It is nice and compact and therefore does not get in the way on the counter. With a capacity of 0.7 liters, it is not really spacious, so if you want to make a stock, you are not ready in one go.

This looks like a great food processor

NutriBullet Baby

‘If you have made more than your child will eat immediately, you can pour the rest into the sealable silicone molds supplied to freeze.’

From the same brand, but completely kid-proof. The NutriBullet Baby consists of round storage containers, silicone molds and two jugs with faces on them. Extra handy: there is a turntable on the lid of such a storage container so that you can indicate exactly when you have made the baby snack. It’s a no-frills food processor: you can only blend with it, not heat it up.
