Tesla is said to be negotiating the purchase of tracks for the Gigafactory
Tesla wants to build a freight yard on the site of the Gigafactory in Grünheide – the US electric car maker is currently negotiating the purchase of the corresponding tracks, according to the media.
Instead of summer, Tesla’s Gigafactory in Grünheide, Brandenburg, will probably not start operating until next year. Since construction work began on the Tesla factory, material has been delivered by freight trains. In the future, the vehicles produced in the plant will also be transported away by train in order to avoid truck chaos around the Gigafactory. Tesla is planning to build its own freight yard – and should negotiate the purchase of the necessary tracks.

Gigafactory: Will Tesla buy branch line?
Like the television station RBB from the German regional railway company has experienced, which owns the railway line, Tesla is currently negotiating the use of the tracks on the factory premises in Grünheide. The plant is connected to the public rail network via this route. There is also talk of Tesla’s desire to buy the long-unused industrial track. Nothing is known about a possible purchase price. Tesla has not commented on the report.
According to a traffic report for the Tesla settlement, around 20 freight trains are expected to arrive and depart every day. According to Golem The route from the public rail network (Fangschleuse junction) to the Freienbrink freight center is around four kilometers long. Trains can travel there at a maximum of 25 kilometers per hour and a maximum of 600 meters.
Railway line: further construction work necessary?
An opinion According to the Verkehrsclub Deutschland (VCD) from June 2020, further construction work would be necessary on the main line to avoid capacity bottlenecks if the trains were to run on their way to and from the Tesla factory without shunting. The experts also recommend building another terminal in east Berlin. This could then also be used by Tesla, according to the VCD.
