T-Mobile, Tele2, Ben and Simpel start following KPN with Eco-sim

Following KPN’s lead, T-Mobile is also starting to deliver the Eco-sim. This step fits in with making the company more sustainable, says T-Mobile. The provider issued 1.5 million SIM cards last year.

Eco-sim at T-Mobile

T-Mobile has announced that it will start delivering a new type of SIM card this quarter. Just like KPN, which announced in January that you can get Ecosim from KPN, T-Mobile is also starting this environmentally friendly successor. By switching to the Eco-sim, the annual production of 5000 kg of new plastic for SIM cards is expected to become redundant. The Eco-sim is made from 100 percent recycled PVC that comes from old refrigerators.

T-Mobile issued 1.5 million SIM cards in 2021, of which 40,000 were eSIM. The eSIM is a fully digital SIM card, only this is not yet supported by all devices. The Eco-sim is seen by T-Mobile as a nice intermediate step. The delivery will start in the course of the first quarter. First, the old stock of sims is used up. The Eco-sim will then be started in a few weeks. T-Mobile emphasizes that it applies to all T-Mobile brands. This means that the Eco-sim will also be available at Tele2, Ben, Simpel and other MVNOs that use the T-Mobile network.
