T-Mobile will increase almost all subscription costs from next January. The inflation correction, which incidentally takes place every year, ensures that the provider has decided to increase costs by 8.6 percent this year.

More expensive subscriptions
In a message on its own website, T-Mobile states that it will increase the subscription costs by 8.6 percent. According to the provider, this percentage is based on the annual change in the CPI – the consumer price index figure – of Statistics Netherlands for the month of June of 2022. You can find these figures here.
T-Mobile reports the following about the price increase in the same message: ”The price level in the Netherlands changes every year. This can affect our costs. Are prices going up? Then we are contractually entitled to increase the fixed monthly costs of most subscriptions every year. For this we use the inflation percentage set by Statistics Netherlands (CBS). Increasing costs as a result of price inflation is what we call inflation adjustment.”

Exceptions
In principle, this increase applies to all subscriptions, but there are a number of exceptions. For example, subscriptions that have been taken out or extended from October 1 of this year are excluded. Therefore, the price increase does not apply to this. The price does increase for T-Mobile customers with a mobile or home subscription that was taken out before October 1. There are also two business subscriptions that will not be increased in price. These are T-Mobile Business Internet and the Corporate Rate Plan.
What does the rest do?
T-Mobile’s two major competitors already implemented the price change last October 1, which means that the increase in their subscriptions is much lower. KPN increased costs by 5.8 percent, VodafoneZiggo by 2.7 percent. Contrary to what T-Mobile does, KPN and Vodafone look at the inflation rate for a whole year. VodafoneZiggo, for example, bases the increase on the average inflation over 2021. T-Mobile, on the other hand, bases this increase only on the month of June.
