Stromer ST2022: Swiss unpack with concept bike
Stromer, which accounts for one in three speed pedelecs sold on the Belgian and Dutch market, would like to strengthen its position as market leader in the speed pedelec market. That seems to have been achieved quite convincingly with the unveiling of the Stromer ST2022 concept bike.
At the moment, the Stromer flagship is the Stromer ST5, the most expensive Stromer, which with all options is worth ten thousand euros. But that’s nothing compared to the spectacular concept bike, which for the time being goes through life under the code name Stromer ST2022. We do not yet know whether this will be a new version of one of the existing models, or whether it will be named ST6.
This concept bike was unveiled at the closed Stromer Universe 2021 event in Genk, Belgium. It was strictly forbidden to take pictures of the Stromer concept bike. That is why we have to make do with a silhouette of the bicycle, as it has been placed by the Swiss on their site.
Stromer ST2022 more powerful than ever
Stromer has extensively equipped the bike for longer trips as well. For example, the Stromer ST2022 is equipped with a 1400 Wh battery. This battery of almost one and a half kilowatt hours is, of course, quite large by 2021 standards.
The reason that the new concept bike has a very thick lower bar to accommodate this battery.
Mysterious Drive
Furthermore, the Stromer ST2022 bicycle is equipped with a mysterious drive, which the Swiss manufacturer will tell more about in the coming months. It is not impossible that this engine is also incorporated in the thick rod. That would make sense, and indeed make the drive unusual.
It has also been disclosed that the drive can be controlled in nine steps.
In short, the vehicle will increasingly resemble an engine limited to 49 km per hour.
The silhouette also shows that it is equipped with a hydraulic disc brake at the front, gear cables hidden in the frame and a luggage carrier. In that regard, the following applies to the Stromer ST2022: from the Swiss nichts neues.
So we will really have to wait for the technical details of the engine and the drive system. In a tactic borrowed from the makers of computer games, Stromer seems to be doing that in small chunks. This, in order to keep the attention of the speed pedelec fans until the summer of 2022, when this flagship will be launched.
Almost thirteen thousand euros
And what will this Swiss engineering marvel cost? It is already known that the price record of the Stromer ST5 will be shattered. The Stromer ST2022 should cost around 13,000 euros. That’s a hefty price, roughly that of a cheap car like the Citroen C1 or the Toyota Aygo. In exchange, you get a fast electric bicycle, which you ride much cheaper than a car, work on your fitness and which is equipped with the latest electronic gadgets.
And let’s be honest. You will make more of an impression on the road on this spectacular speed pedelec than in a cheesy budget car that your neighbor also drives. Although the crumple zone is of course less.
