“May the 4th be with you” – what does that mean?
First a brief explanation of why May 4, 2022 It’s Star Wars Day: A Jedi Knight greeting that is often used in the Star Wars films is “May the force be with you” – or in English “May the force be with you”.
In English, this saying lends itself to a play on words, because “May” means both “may” and “may”. The power, so “the force” sounds exactly like “the fourth”, which means “the fourth” (“the 4th”). This results in the modification “May the 4th be with you”, which translated directly into German would mean “Mai der Vierte sei mit dir”, which makes no sense to us. In English, however, this is the steep template for that 4. May of a year to declare Star Wars Day.
The saying was said for the first time in 1978 an entry on starwars.com – a year after the first film in the series was released.

- Actor Harrison Ford earned a measly $1,000 a week for his appearance in the first Star Wars film, Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope in 1977. The entire film cost $11 million to produce. For comparison, the Solo: A Star Wars Story budget is estimated at $300 million.
- The phrase “I have a bad feeling about this” appears in all the films in the Star Wars series and was used by Luke Skywalker, Obi-Wan Kenobi, Anakin Skywalker, among others or pronounced Han Solo.
