Sponsored – Daredevils beware: these cool family activities in Austria are a big tip if you like adventure

No country where you can be so much in nature, the mountains and the open air as Austria. And let that country also have some cool and cool activities that you and your children can do. From ziplining to tobogganing: do you dare?

You may know Austria from well-known (winter sports) areas such as Ischgl, Sölden and Mayrhofen, but there are many more beautiful places where you can enjoy a top holiday – also in the summer. So scroll on and marvel at these activities and beautiful places in undiscovered Austria!

At high altitude

If you go hiking in the Austrian mountains, you will of course already be at a great height. It gets even more exciting when you visit the Pitztal and cross the Benni Raich-Brücke, a bridge about 137 meters long and – don’t be alarmed – 94 meters high! So you have to have a somewhat strong stomach to cross this bridge, but believe us: it is so worth it. You look out over a beautiful valley with coniferous trees, through which the river Pitze flows. If it is not adventurous enough for you, it is even possible to bungee jump from the bridge (note: from 14 years and older). Those who find that too exciting can stand (or sit) with both feet on the ground in the Bungystüberl – a nice place for a cup of coffee or lunch anyway.
Another great activity: the XP Adventure Park in Jerzens. ‘Fly’ (on a cable) over a canyon at a height of fifty meters or follow a high-altitude ropes course. Is your child smaller? Then you can have fun in the playground.

Down in three loops

The walk through the Kundl Klamm in the Wildschönau region is slightly less steep than in the Pitztal, because you walk on a ‘normal’ walking path (nice again: the pram can be taken along). The story behind the gorge is all the more exciting, because a dragon is said to have wriggled itself out of a rock, according to legend. In addition, the view of the canyon is breathtaking, including the beautiful waters and waterfalls. Which is also super handy: in the Wildschönau a slow train runs between Mühltal and the entrance to the Kundler Klamm. Highly recommended for families with children.
Great fun of course, such a family walk, but if you really want to feel the adrenaline flowing through your body, then you have to be in the Drachental Family Park. That’s where you can ride the Alpine Coaster, a roller coaster that first takes you up more than 1300 meters, and then down again 625 meters – and in three loops. So you literally zoom through the mountains.

From racing to ziplining

Another tough roller coaster that is located in the middle of the mountains: the Nocky Flitzer in Nocky’s AlmZeit park in the Murau region. More than sixteen hundred meters long and with a height difference of almost two hundred meters, you race through steep bends, loops, waves and make a ‘jump’ here and there.
Other adventures can also be experienced in Murau, because you can go rafting on the river Mur in Stadl an der Mur (from 6 years old). Or go up in the air at Hochseilgarten Oberwölz, a climbing forest where you can climb, scramble and zipline – with special equipment, of course. There are ten courses with different levels, suitable for children from 1.20 meters. Don’t worry if your child is even smaller, because that has also been thought of with a special course for the little ones.

From the sky

Imagine standing on a mountain, running to the edge and jumping off… terrifying of course, but not if you’re attached to a paraglider. Well, of course it’s still quite exciting when you float through the air, but at least you’re safely stuck – and there’s an instructor behind you. And that view, over the Austrian nature, that is of course worth gold. You can make such a jump in the Alpbachtal, in total you will fly over the mountains for fifteen minutes – and you will be an experience richer. Make sure that your children also think it’s fantastic (because yes, they can also make such a jump, provided they are heavier than twenty kilos). Also recommended is Lauserland in Alpbachtal, next to the mountain station of the cable car. It is a great amusement park with more than forty different experience stations, but daredevils will of course immediately head for the Lausertoren, where you can jump off from three different platforms. With a soft landing of course, namely a very large air cushion. Want even more action? Then a ride with the Alpine Coaster Lauser Sauser should not be missed. This toboggan run reaches speeds of up to forty kilometers per hour and has the highest 360-degree roundabout in Austria!

Not a normal swing

The Fisser Flitzer, the Fisser Flieger and the Skyswing: just the names make you want to ride (one of) these attractions in Sommer-Funpark Fiss. For example, the Fisser Flitzer is a toboggan run, but at least you’re still sitting on your buttocks. In the Fisser Flieger you ‘hang’ (with a large set of wings above you, which are attached to a cable car) and it literally seems as if you are flying. Well, with the Skyswing you can probably also imagine: it is a mega swing that you swing through the air. In short: daredevils can indulge themselves here. But the best thing of all is that you can do these activities in the middle of nature – you literally look out at the mountains. And that is slightly different from the Dutch theme parks you are used to.
You will find another great adventure park in Serfaus. In X-Trees Waldseilpark there are no less than twelve courses, over a length of more than 900 meters. The name says it all, you climb between (and in) the tall trees, with a highest point of fourteen meters. There is also a Spidernet, an Indiana Jones Bridge (see how to balance on it) and a bungee trampoline where you can practice your somersaults.
