We expect these Apple products in 2022
2021 is drawing to a close and so it’s time to take a look at next year. There have been a lot of rumors about Apple’s plans for 2022 in the past week, so it’s an ideal time to make a first overview. In chronic order, here’s what Apple will (probably) announce in 2022.
iPhone SE 2022 – March/April 2022
The second-generation iPhone SE appeared at the beginning of the pandemic, in April 2020. The device combines a well-known design with fast hardware, making the price-quality ratio unparalleled.
Because the iPhone SE 2020 was (and is) a success, Apple naturally wants to build on this. According to some sources, the successor will be released early next year.
The iPhone SE 2022, which is also called iPhone SE Plus in the corridors, seems to get a larger display and A15 chip. This super-fast chip is also in the iPhone 13.
New iPads – June 2022
2022 promises to be a packed iPad year. According to rumors, Apple will announce no fewer than three new models: a ‘normal’ iPad (entry-level model), iPad Air and an iPad Pro. The latter seems to be especially interesting.
According to the generally well-informed Mark Gurman will receive the successor to the iPad Pro 2021 wireless charging. That is special, because so far no Apple tablet supports this. To make wireless charging possible, the iPad Pro of 2022 would have a glass housing, instead of aluminum.
On to the ‘normal’ iPad, which was renewed last September. Gurman reports that Apple will release a new entry-level model next year. Unfortunately, he does not say what exactly will change. The same goes for the iPad Air. The previous iPad Air appeared in 2020.

iPhone 14 – September 2022
Starting with a caveat: Apple will undoubtedly release successors to the iPhone 13 line next year. Because these devices look a lot like the iPhone 12 from 2020, we expect Apple to go big next year.
What should you imagine? According to the first rumors, the iPhone 14 will get a new design inspired by the iPhone 4, which appeared in 2010. Also important: the notch would disappear completely, or at least become considerably smaller.
Furthermore, Apple seems definitively not to release a successor to the iPhone 13 mini. Instead, a new model is introduced: the iPhone 14 Max. This one is just as good as the entry-level model, but bigger. In summary, these are the expected models:
- iPhone 14 with 6.1 inch screen, the iPhone 14 Max would have a 6.7 inch display.
- The iPhone 14 Pro will have a 6.1-inch display, the iPhone 14 Pro Max will come in at 6.7 inches.
3 X Apple Watch – September 2022
The Apple Watch Series 7 was rumored to have all kinds of new features, but nothing could be further from the truth. Not much is known about the Series 8 yet, other than Apple will (of course) focus on health. For example, the new Apple watch would have a blood sugar and body temperature monitor.
Furthermore, Apple also seems to announce two other Watches, including a successor to the Apple Watch SE. This affordable watch came out at the same time as the Apple Watch Series 6 in 2020 and is best known for its excellent value for money. Unfortunately, little is known about the Apple Watch SE 2 yet.
So is the most mysterious of the bunch. Behind the scenes, Apple seems to be working on a robust Watch for athletes. You should be able to wear these while practicing all kinds of extreme sports, such as snowboarding and rock climbing.
Year of the Mac – Fall 2022
2022 will be the year of the Mac. According to the previously quoted Mark Gurman, the company will release no fewer than models next year:
- A high-end iMac with Apple Silicon chip. The Mac seems to be getting bigger than 24 inches.
- The MacBook Air of 2022 will receive an M2 chip, the successor of the current M1 chip that is in the MacBook Air of 2020.
- The Mac mini is also being renewed. It is still unclear what exactly will change.
- According to Gurman, a new entry-level version of the MacBook Pro is coming. It will probably replace the current 13-inch model.
- Remarkable: Apple also seems to release a new Mac Pro next year. The most important change? An Apple Silicon chip.

Outsiders: new AirPods Pro and glasses?
The entry-level AirPods were already renewed last year, so we have to wait for the AirPods Pro’s turn. The first version of Apple’s high-end earbuds came out in 2019. 2022 therefore seems an ideal time to release the AirPods Pro 2.
According to several sources, the new Pro earbuds will have a renewed, more compact design. Furthermore, it is only logical that Apple is jacking up the sound quality.
Finally, maybe Apple will come up with a ‘One more thing’ moment next year? We know that the company is tinkering with all kinds of mysterious projects in the background, such as smart glasses (called Apple Glass), a new kind of HomePod and even a car. So it could just be that the company comes out surprisingly in 2022 and announces a completely new product.
