Slovaks have already lost hundreds of euros, don’t get caught. The post office is filing a criminal complaint

Slovenská pošta warns of fraud. Fraudsters use a fake mail page-like page to convince the seller that this is a secure method of payment and to try to make money. If the victim enters the details from his payment card, the fraud is complete.

How fraud works

The fraudster will contact the seller, who advertises his goods on advertising portals. He pretends to be interested in the offered goods and requests that they be sent by post, paying the purchase amount to the seller’s account. And in this step comes danger.

He will send the seller a link to a fake mail page that resembles the real one. Those who are more attentive will notice that even though this fake website looks credible, there are various grammatical errors and some branding elements are missing.

Greater credibility is also ensured by the fact that all redirects to the official web site work. If the seller agrees to this type of transaction, the fraudster notifies him that he has paid and sends another link that goes to a foreign site. In this step, the victim has to click on the “Accept” button and then enter all the details from the payment card. The scam is so complete.

A criminal complaint has been filed

Slovenská pošta has already taken legal action. She filed a criminal complaint against an unknown perpetrator with law enforcement authorities. He urges citizens to be vigilant. There are several indications as to why this may be a scam. You should note the following:

• Website layout and design – some elements that the official website has may be missing
• Grammar – We often find a number of grammatical errors on fraudulent sites
• URL – Always check which page you are currently on
• e-mail – carefully check the e-mail address through which the interested party communicates with you
• We never enter credit card information in order to receive money

Slovenská pošta also reminds that it never requests payment of fees via e-mails or SMS, nor for customs procedures or VAT, nor does it mediate any payments. The shipment is paid either when picked up at the post office, courier or in the PackageBOX.
