‘She was already on the doorstep for a maternity visit a few hours after giving birth’

Immediately after the birth you are not waiting for spontaneous maternity visits, especially not from people you hardly know.

During lunch the maternity nurse came upstairs: ‘Someone is at the door.’ My family sometimes, a little too early? But no, it was a friend. “She lives far away and says you’ll be thrilled to see her.” When I think far away I think of Australia and I didn’t know anyone there, so I let the maternity nurse reject the visit, but she soon returned: ‘This friend really wants to surprise you!’
