Sega is seriously considering another part of the Virtua Fighter -apkrig series
The first part of the Virtua Fighter series by Segy was released in 1993. The last one – Virtua Fighter 5 Ultimate Showdown – this June. However, as its subtitle suggests, it was not a novelty in the true sense of the word, but another version of the fifth volume, which debuted in 2006 on consoles and a year later on consoles. The improved remaster was released on PS4 and again on slot machines. The Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio team (Yakuza series) participated in it, used its Dragon Engine and came up with new music, online elements, interface and other details. The title has met with very good acceptance and this is important for the future of the whole brand.
The game could be a full-fledged sequel, because the success of the Ultimate Showdown exceeded the expectations of both Segy and Sony. Producer Moriji Aoki revealed in an interview with the Japanese magazine Dengeki Online that the latest Virtua Fighter was not created to make money, but to test the audience’s interest and the brand’s attractiveness. And because he passed this test, Sega is now considering a full-fledged sequel.
Aoki praises the fact that the game is played by fans in Asia, Europe and the United States. The game downloaded more than expected. According to him, the potential was successful and a lot of people are interested in the series, if Sega doubted that. Now he has to think about what to do next with this knowledge. “I’m really thinking about creating another project,” Aoki said, adding that he was analyzing everything and planning a new vision of how to make such a title.
It is not clear what exactly it would look like, but according to Aoki, the next part would definitely spend several years in development. His goal would also undoubtedly be to reach the widest possible audience. In this sense, Sega is also considering the release of Ultimate Showdown for PC. But Aoki knows that this would probably require cross-platform multiplayer support, which he said is a big challenge.
The Virtua Fighter 5 Ultimate Showdown debuted in the PlayStation Plus subscription program. If you have activated it in time, you may find it in your library.
