Seagate will introduce a 512GB and 2TB external drive for the Xbox Series -apkrig

In early October, there was speculation that Seagate, in partnership with Microsoft, would bring another version of the only official external storage for the Xbox Series console. At the moment, a 1TB variant is on sale, the price of which in Czech stores is around 6,000 crowns. However, as we could correctly deduce from earlier unconfirmed information from Windows Central magazine, players will be able to reach for the cheaper 512GB variant, but according to the official report on the Xbox Wire website, also for the more expensive 2TB disk. According to Microsoft, they should start selling soon and in some foreign stores it is already possible to pre-order the smaller of the upcoming discs. Along with that, of course, their price is also known, which is not exactly low, especially in the case of the 2TB variant. One of the influencing factors is that it is a fast SSD, the other is the fact that Seagate has no competition yet, so can unscrew the prices where she likes.

But if you want to expand the storage of the Xbox Series X or S by 2 TB, then the price compared to the value of the console as such is literally cosmic.

Enough tensioning – a 512 GB drive can be purchased in the United States for $ 140 without tax, which is $ 80 less than the 1TB variant available. This basically corresponds to the information leak from the unnamed store’s warehouse described in the introduction, and with simple math you will find that when you buy a disk with 1 TB of free space, you save $ 60 than you would – purely in theory – buy two 512 GB modules. But if you want to expand the storage of the Xbox Series X or S by 2 TB, then the price compared to the value of the console as such is literally cosmic. Seagate wants $ 400 for the biggest expansion drive, which is equivalent to the price of a PlayStation 5 without an optical drive. It’s also a hundred dollars more than the Xbox Series S and the same amount of money less than the more powerful Xbox Series X. But the pricing is understandable given the prices of the remaining models and SSDs in general, but it still plays a role monopolywhich Seagate has, in partnership with Microsoft.

Whether or when the situation will change, no one knows for sure yet. Representatives of the Xbox division do not send any signals to specific SSD manufacturers, although it is likely that they will be addressed in the future. Of course, the question remains how much cheaper the disks can be as a result, if we take into account the margin and probably the Microsoft fee for licensing the proprietary form of the card / disks.
