scratches are a thing of the past (and here’s why)
You no longer have to put the iPhone 15 in a case because of scratches. At least, if this Apple patent becomes reality. You must know this.
Read on after the ad.
iPhone 15 without scratches
Whenever a new iPhone is launched, Apple likes to put the new colors and design in the spotlight. Of course to tempt everyone to buy a new iPhone. But in the end the beautiful device ends up in a case. However, based on a new patent Apple just obtained, covers are no longer necessary to protect the phone from scratches and other damage.
As Patently Apple reports, Apple recently received a patent for an “abrasion-resistant glass or metal back” that can be used in iPhones, iPads, and MacBooks. The trick is to use “more than one housing material.” The patent specifically talks about metal and ceramic, although the method can probably be used in combination with other materials as well.
How it works (according to the patent)
According to the patent, Apple has developed a “mouldable matrix” that consists in part of “wear-resistant elements.” The latter are harder than the surrounding materials. The diagram shows a series of protruding ‘pearls’ arranged ‘in a regular pattern’ with an average spacing of 10 to 100 micrometres – which cannot be seen or felt. The patent also shows how the Apple logo and camera lie in areas that are free of this wear-resistant material.
It all sounds very complicated, but actually we think it’s only important that we don’t have scratches on our iPhone. Images such as those of the iPhone below are therefore a thing of the past.
When is this coming to iPhone?
It’s an interesting patent that may arrive sooner than we think. It may already be this year with the iPhone 15 of this year, or else next year with the iPhone 16. It is not a feature that is widely rumored in advance (unlike a new camera or display), but it could have a major impact. selling point for people who put their iPhone in a case.
Even though Apple sells several iPhone cases, it would certainly be better for marketing if people walk around with ‘naked’ iPhones. After all, they can also be seen in almost every show on Apple TV +. us it wouldn’t be surprising if this feature appeared in an iPhone as soon as the iPhone 16 is on the market.
