Tizen OS will be available to the competition with all its advantages
The South Korean giant announced this at its SDC 21 press conference. It revealed several new features for Bixby’s voice assistant, Samsung Health, Samsung Knox, SmartThings and the Tizen operating system. A licensing program for the Tizen OS platform was introduced for manufacturers of competing smart TV manufacturers.
The platform also has access to various streaming services including Apple Music, Apple TV +, Disney +, Hulu, Netflix, Prime Video, Spotify, YouTube, YouTube Kids and YouTube TV. Under the license, manufacturers will be able to use the Tizen IOS brand and promote their products at events related to it.
Samsung could attract application developers by opening a platform to other vendors
With this move, Samsung is responding to its competition, which has long provided its systems to smart TV manufacturers. Examples are Amazon with Amazon Fire TV, Google with Android TV, LG with WebOS or Roku. By expanding the Tizen operating system on the market, Samsung can also attract application developers, who are still few on the market compared to the competition.
Tizen OS was introduced 9 years ago as a successor to the Bada system, which used, for example, the Samsung Wave smarfon. Unlike Bada, he also aimed at smart products and for many years, in addition to smar TVs, he also powered Samsung smart watches. However, their latest generation Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 replaced it with Wear OS from Google and Tizen OS currently remains only a system for TVs.
