Samsung mistakenly confirms launch and compatible devices
Samsung has just inadvertently confirmed the imminent arrival of One UI 5.1 in February 2023 in the changelog of the latest update of the Galaxy Watch 5. In addition, we also discover the list of devices compatible with the new version of its homemade overcoat.
As you may know, we have known for several months now that Samsung is working on One UI 5.1the next version of its overlay based on Android 13. This was confirmed by the manufacturer in an official press release published in October 2022.
On the other hand and apart from that, we have very little information on this new version. No official release date, let alone any new features. However, the rumors about One UI 5.1 have been going on for the past few weeks.
We know from reliable sources that internal tests of the overlay have started on several devices. This is particularly the case on the Galaxy S22, the Galaxy Z Fold 4, but also on the Galaxy S20. This will also be the last Android update that Samsung’s old flagships will be able to claim.
Samsung spills the beans for One UI 5.1
And while we are waiting for an official speech around One UI 5.1, Samsung has mistakenly confirmed its imminent arrival as well as the list of eligible smartphones. Indeed, the manufacturer explicitly mentioned One UI 5.1 in the changelog of the latest update to the Galaxy Watch 5, its latest smartwatch launched in August 2022.
Thus, we learn that One UI 5.1 will be imperative to take advantage of the new “Camera Controller” feature which, as its name suggests, will allow you to control the zoom of your smartphone’s camera from your smartwatch. However, Samsung has previously indicated that this feature will be rolled out in February 2023 on the Galaxy Watch 5. In other words, the South Korean firm corroborates previous rumors which evoked a deployment of One UI 5.1 in February 2023 alongside the Galaxy S23.
In addition, we can read in the changelog that One UI 5.1 will be available “on flagship models released after the Galaxy S20 and Galaxy Z Flip”. In fact, this immediately includes:
- the Galaxy S20s
- the Galaxy S21s
- the Galaxy S22
- The Galaxy Z Flips
- the Galaxy Z Flip 5G
- The Galaxy Z Flip 3
- The Galaxy Z Flip 4
- The Galaxy Z Fold 2
- the Galaxy Z Fold 3
- The Galaxy Z Fold 4
As a reminder, the Galaxy S23 will be officially presented on February 1, 2023 during a new Galaxy Unpacked conference.
