Samsung is going to improve these things on their foldable smartphones
Samsung shared their future plans for foldable smartphones at a meeting. The company says they still need to improve their foldables on a number of points before they are ‘truly’ suitable for the general public. What points is Samsung talking about?

Foldable smartphones
In 2019, Samsung launched its first foldable smartphone, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold. The device turned out to be more of a concept phone, in view of the many problems that the device had. But the smartphone ushered in the beginning of the foldable smartphones. And no the foldables are not yet the big bang which makes all other smartphones extinct, but the sales figures are getting better little by little. Although the market share worldwide was less than one percent last year. The number of foldables from Samsung is already eight, with the Z Flip 4 and Z Fold 4 as the most recent devices.
And now Samsung is not the only manufacturer with foldable smartphones. Brands such as OPPO, Motorola, Vivo and Huawei have already launched one or more foldables. Although we have to say that we secretly hoped for something more at this point. For example, OPPO came out with the OPPO Find N last year, which we think is perhaps the finest foldable in terms of size and aspect ratio. However, the sequel to this device has not come and the smartphone itself has still not left China. This is a shame, as the foldables from the brands mentioned above are really better than those from Samsung in a number of areas. Competition is therefore always good and will ensure that Samsung will really have to make steps, something the company has hardly done with its new foldable smartphones. But according to Samsung, that will soon change. According to Samsung, the Galaxy Z devices should improve on the points that we list below.
1. Fold and wrinkle in the screen must go away
Samsung indicates that the creases and the fold in the screen should be reduced, and should actually almost disappear. That this is possible proves, among other things, Huawei with its P50 Pocket. With this device, due to a different way of folding, you can hardly see and/or feel a fold. The same applies to the OPPO Find N, they also fold their screens differently than Samsung. To visualize this you can fold a piece of paper. In the Samsung way you have to form a sharp and tight fold. The OPPO way you fold less stitch and leave more room at the end of the fold. This makes the folding edge much less visible.
2. Thinner and Lighter
As another point, Samsung mentions the weight and thickness of the current foldables, which, according to the company, should both be reduced. Samsung was already working on this, for example, there is a new hinge in the Fold 4 that has a new mechanism that works via one hinge. The predecessors of the Fold 4 had two hinges. One hinge makes the smartphone lighter and also a lot more durable because one hinge is easier to repair than two.
3. Slot for the S Pen
Finally, the company reports that Samsung’s future foldables should have a slot for the S Pen. We think that it will mainly be about the Fold devices. The Galaxy Z Fold 4 can already be used with an S Pen, but a slot for this pen is still missing. Many of you already indicated that this was missed, Samsung indicates that they are now going to work on it.
What is missing?
Do you think there is still something missing from the points for improvement that Samsung itself mentions? Let us know in the comments below this article.
