Samsung Galaxy S21: August security update available
The Samsung Galaxy S21, the Samsung Galaxy S21 Plus and the Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra now receive the August security patch via an OTA update.
Samsung Galaxy S21 update
The Galaxy S21 series gets a new update of 266.69 MB in size and it contains firmware version G998BXXU3AUGM. Of course, the update includes the August 2021 security patch that fixes 40 privacy and security vulnerabilities. The update may also include general bug fixes and stability improvements for the phone. We do not expect any new features.
This firmware update is currently being rolled out over-the-air to the Galaxy S21 series in the Netherlands and Belgium. The update appears in the notification bar, but you can also manually search for the update. This can be done via: Settings > Software update > Download and install. The best update policy
Samsung is currently in the top when it comes to a good update policy. For example, the Galaxy S20 and Galaxy S21 can count on new Android versions for three years and security updates for at least four years. The Galaxy S20 series has already received a version update to Android 11 and can still count on the Android 12 and Android 13 update. The Galaxy S21 series will get Android 12 in 2021, Android 13 in 2022 and Android 14 in 2023. Samsung even gives its high-end Enterprise smartphones five years of security updates.
Other manufacturers are also paying more attention to the security of their phones. OPPO and Vivo recently extended the update deadline from two to three years, and OnePlus has also recently made some changes to its update policy. Google is still lagging behind with its Pixel phones. The search giant guarantees Android version updates for three years and security updates for at least three years. The new Pixel 6 phones may receive updates for five years.
