Samsung apologizes for the clamping of the Galaxy S22
In recent weeks, users have noticed that the Galaxy S22s do not fully exploit the power of the processor. Samsung’s Game Optimization Service (GOS) was indeed limiting performance depending on which app was running. According to various feedback, more than 10,000 applications were entitled to limited performance.
Samsung reacted to this case, promising an update to put users in control. The update in question debuted last week. It is still being deployed, some users are still waiting for it.
In his apology, JH Han acknowledged that Samsung failed to understand customer concerns about app and game performance. He also reaffirmed that the Game Optimization Service (GOS) was designed to optimize the performance of the phone.
The executive also denied claims that the Game Optimization Service problem was due to the company’s excessive cost-cutting efforts, saying Samsung doesn’t give up quality to cut costs. According to some unverified consumer claims, the company saved money by not using heat-dissipating hardware with its Galaxy S22s, opting to rely solely on its dedicated service.
The South Korean regulator recently launched an investigation into the whole story to determine whether Samsung violated fair labeling and advertising laws by promising too much capacity with its Galaxy S22s.
