One UI 5: 6 new features
Six new functions have been announced for One UI 5. This is the latest skin from Samsung and will be rolled out to the various devices together with the Android 13 update. Before we get to that point, we have to make do with the information that comes in so far. Thanks to the beta program, we already know what’s new. For example, new features in One UI 5 include more options in the color palette for customizing the interface. In addition, there are improvements for the widgets, especially for the smart widgets. And so more new features have been added.
Samsung has now added six other new functions to One UI 5. We list them for you.
Bixby Text Call
A new feature that Samsung is adding is Bixby Text Call. This puts Samsung in competition for features such as Direct My Call and Call Screening, which it offers on Pixel devices. You can answer a call by typing a message, after which Bixby converts the text into spoken audio, which is then read out to the caller. The other person’s conversation is then converted to text, so that you can continue the conversation in this way. According to Samsung, this is a handy addition for public transport or a concert. Bixby Text Call will be available in Korea first, later it will be available in English language. This should happen in 2023. Bixby itself is not yet available in Dutch at all, so don’t count on Samsung to release this here soon.
Fashions and routines
Another new function that we know from LG and Apple, for example, are Modes and Routines. This allows you to perform certain things on the basis of different steps. Think of adjusting the sound profile based on your location, or other factors. The ‘Modes’ function in One UI 5 is even more extensive and has different modes for different situations. For example, when you activate training mode, notifications and sounds are muted so that you are not distracted. At the touch of a button, you can choose the sleep mode, and the sounds are softened and the brightness lowers.
Security and privacy
Samsung also promises the necessary improvements in the field of privacy and security. Earlier, Google shared the news that new options will become available in the Pixels’ security and privacy dashboard over time. Samsung will implement this with its own dashboard. At a glance you get a quick overview of the security of your device, and you get suggestions to improve it. Your Galaxy will also warn you if you are about to share a photo that contains personal information. Think of data on your credit card, driver’s license, passport and the like.
video wallpaper
You already have more options for personalizing your Galaxy in the optional Good Lock app; however, that app is officially unavailable here. A feature from this app will be added to One UI 5. Users will be given the option to set a video wallpaper on your lock screen. You will then see this when you switch on the screen of your Samsung.
Even more
More features have been added to One UI 5. Smart suggestions for widgets, for example. This makes it possible to make a suggestion for placing a certain widget based on usage patterns and your activity. One UI 5 also includes a new menu of connected devices. These are devices that are connected to your smartphone; although these seem to be Samsung devices; such as via Quick Share, Smart Things or DeX.
Samsung will provide the first devices with One UI 5 this year, along with the Android 13 update. We have a nice overview ready for you on DroidApp; the Android 13 Update overview. Here you can immediately see when and which smartphone will receive the update.
