Apple shares ‘opinion’ on iPhone 13 rumors
That writes Motherboard. According to the website, a Chinese resident received a warning letter from Apple in June. In this, the company demands that this (anonymous) person stop ‘leaking’ information about unannounced products.
According to Apple’s lawyers, the Chinese resident is guilty of spreading rumors about upcoming Apple products, such as the iPhone 13. The company wants the person to stop doing this.
First, rumors create uncertainty and faulty products, according to Apple. For example, iPhone accessory makers can be fooled by early photos of a new product and start making iPhone cases that ultimately don’t fit properly.
Furthermore, Apple writes that sharing rumors causes less enthusiasm among consumers. By the time a product is officially unveiled, the ‘wow factor’ would be a lot less. According to Apple, this is because products leak early.
Finally, according to Apple, spreading rumors is illegal. This is because in some cases the photos show secret techniques or trade secrets. We don’t know which rumor spreader, also known as a ‘leaker’, received the letter.
Apple opens attack on ‘leakers’
Rumors are Apple an eyesore. At the end of June, the company already decided to equip its staff with body cameras. This is on the staff’s chest and films everything that the people do. Only employees who work on unannounced products wear such a camera.
Spreading rumors can be very lucrative. If you’re the first to have images of the iPhone 13, those photos are worth a lot of money. Factory employees therefore regularly leak information about new Apple products to the media, whether or not for money.
Apple’s efforts so far have not been very successful. A lot of information has already been leaked about the iPhone 13, Apple Watch Series 7 and iPad 2021. In the article below we look at the products that Apple will release in 2021.
