Robot dog Aibo is becoming a little more like a normal dog
Would you consider a robot dog instead of a ‘regular’ four-legged friend? There is in fact a good investment in the electronic version of Sony called Aibo.
We don’t want to discount owning a dog, but many nice things come with what people might see as drawbacks. Hair everywhere, feces in places you would rather not have them and of course diseases or health issues. And then you also have to invest a nice fortune in dog food. Well, the fun stuff outweighs this quite a bit, but you can solve all these problems with a robot dog.
robot dog
That sounds insane, but it really happens. Robot dogs do what real dogs would do, without the drawbacks mentioned above. A disadvantage of a robot dog is that it is easier to bond with a real animal. But if you can empathize with a plastic electronic thing that can reasonably mimic a dog, you’re not alone.
Aibo
Sony is now selling a robot dog called Aibo. Sony seems to have a lot to learn in terms of robot techniques, but in terms of cuddliness and cuteness, this is probably the closest to a real dog. This animal can switch the button to own a robot dog as a real companion. It seems that in Japan it is becoming a hype and people actually give old Aibo’s who no longer work as a ritual a funeral. A dog belongs to nice accessories and Sony has a new accessory for the Aibo. It also simply seems to make a dog owner’s life easier.
harness
Sony sells a kind of harness where Aibo fits. You can do this on your shoulders and Aibo as a kind of baby for you to carry. Something that dog owners sometimes do if they prefer not to have their dog running around loose. This way you know for sure that Aibo does not jump somewhere randomly and you have lost him. When you just want to let the robot dog walk around somewhere if you have control over it, you just get Aibo out again.
With that, owning a robot dog starts to look a lot like owning a real dog. The harness costs about $85. Maybe these kinds of accessories will convince more people about a robot dog. Or should we not want that?
